Smith-Little, llc assists Insurance Regulators and the Insurance Industry in fulfilling their responsibilities on regulatory matters efficiently and cost-effectively. We provide all required regulatory/examination services by utilizing our in-house resources of experienced and credentialed professionals who can provide regulators with needed support. Decisions and recommendations are based on extensive knowledge, intensive research and years of hands-on experience.

Market Conduct Examinations

We are equipped to provide all regulatory/examination services by utilizing experienced and credentialed employees and independent contractors as resources. These career professionals possess extensive knowledge and years of hands-on experience.

Smith-Little’s staff has experience conducting market conduct examinations. Joy Little was responsible for a market conduct examination division during her regulatory career. Joy has also conducted market conduct examinations as a regulatory consultant.

Financial Examinations
Smith-Little’s aim is to assist insurance regulators in fulfilling their responsibilities on regulatory matters efficiently and cost-effectively. We are equipped to provide all regulatory/examination services by utilizing experienced and credentialed employees and independent contractors as resources. These career professionals possess extensive knowledge and years of hands-on experience.

Smith-Little can conduct financial examinations utilizing either the risk-based (Specific Risk Analysis) approach or the newly adopted risk-focused surveillance approach. Key staff members have extensive experience with the SRA approach. Joy Little was instrumental in the development and implementation of the SRA approach. In addition, Joy and other key staff members have received training by the NAIC and have experience with the new risk-focused approach. Les Hatley has conducted numerous training sessions in the new risk-focused approach. All examinations are conducted in accordance with Department procedures, and/or instructions and the NAIC Examiners Handbook.

Review of Regulatory Filings
Smith-Little is qualified to evaluate filings submitted by the industry for regulatory approval such as:

The staff of Smith-Little is experienced in reviewing reinsurance transactions, agreements and programs. Our staff will determine risk transfer and assess the appropriateness of accounting treatment. Their extensive knowledge of statutory accounting principles affecting reinsurance transactions ensures a competent assessment of the parties' financial statements. Should further resources be needed, we will engage additional experts to assist us.
